Strong Winds in Ibaraki Prefecture (NHK Easy)

 

This article talks about how in Ibaraki Prefecture, there were 20 buildings taken down by strong winds. There was a two story building that came down due to the first floor collapsing, and there was an elementary school whose windows were broken by the wind. Additionally, in Sasaki Town, there was a 30-foot crane that fell onto the road. Some meteorologists went to the area to try to determine what caused such high winds.

While this article is somewhat somber, it did have some vocab and grammar covered in the last lesson, so it was a good review, while also allowing me to learn a few new words through context clues.

Fire in Second Story Apartment in Tokyo

During the night, at around 2 a.m., a fire started in a Tokyo apartment. The police believe that this fire came from a mobile battery, as it was reported by a resident that they were using a mobile battery to charge their phone while they were asleep.  This fire occurred on the second floor of the building, and there were six people who were breathing in smoke and had to be taken to the hospital. This article was very interesting, and it was slightly challenging with a lot of katakana, but it seemed like good review. I hope all affected are okay.
